What if this summer, you were to discover our French regions? From 18 June until 24 September 2022, Amelia offers flights every Saturday between Brive and Ajaccio airports.
This week, Amelia takes you to discover Ajaccio and its heavenly landscapes. To accompany you during your stay on the “Ile de Beauté”, here is a list of Ajaccio’s must-sees:
Set out to conquer the Ajaccio region and its idyllic landscapes:
The old town
Venturing into the narrow streets of Ajaccio is like stepping back in time and plunging into a typically Mediterranean setting. Wander between the colourful houses and discover the citadel, the ramparts, Place Foch, the Palais Fesch and the Santa Maria Assunta cathedral.
National Museum of the House of Bonaparte
Ajaccio, the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, is home to the ancestral residence of the first French emperor. Now transformed into a museum, this house will immerse you in the daily life of the Bonaparte family and in the atmosphere of the late 18th century.
The beaches
The “Imperial City” is also known for its fine sandy beaches and turquoise water. Among the most remarkable are the beaches of Saint-François, Mare e Sole and Capo di Feno.
Gastronomy
Corsica is full of culinary specialities. The island is particularly renowned for its charcuterie: try figatelli, coppa or prissuttu. Try also the bastelles, small turnovers filled with chard and brocciu, the island’s emblematic cheese. To accompany your meal, there is nothing like a glass of Ajaccio or myrtle liqueur.
Hiking
The Ajaccio region offers breathtaking panoramas. A few minutes from the city centre, the Parata site allows you to discover the Corsican flora and to appreciate the Sanguinaires Islands up close. You can extend your hike by following the customs path, an itinerary that overlooks the cliffs and plunges you into the maquis.
